We are looking for:
A Portfolio/R&D and Commercial Controlling Manager to be responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and business partnering across the full value chain, from early-stage R&D to Commercial execution. The role leads the process of monthly MBRs with Portfolio/R&D and Commercial teams, leveraging SAP system and advanced analytics to deliver insights that drive decision-making and performance optimization. The role is a business partner to the R&D/Portfolio and Commercial leads and works closely with the Finance Reporting team.
On the R&D side, the role oversees tracking of development activities, licensing projects, business cases, and profitability of new products, including COGS, pricing, and capitalization of personnel costs. It also ensures accurate management of intangible capex, lab inventory, and co-development reconciliations.
On the Commercial side, the role supports pricing strategies, tenders, and commissions, while ensuring robust execution of credit policies and controls. It drives portfolio profitability analysis, launch performance tracking, and portfolio optimization initiatives (PPO), alongside reconciliation of sales, marketing spend, and revenue streams. Through precise accruals management and financial oversight, the manager ensures transparency and compliance of financial reporting as well as focus on continuous improvement.
As a Commercial, Portfolio/R&D Controlling Manager you will be:
Strategic Business Partnering
- Act as a trusted advisor to R&D, Portfolio, and Commercial leadership, providing financial insights, scenario analysis, and decision support to drive growth, profitability, and strategic objectives.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Planning
- Lead the Budgeting, Forecasting, and Strategic Planning processes across R&D, Portfolio, and Commercial areas, ensuring alignment with Group FP&A requirements and templates.
Financial Performance Reviews
- Drive and lead Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs) for R&D, Portfolio, and Commercial functions, delivering actionable insights and recommendations to senior management.
Assist senior management with board presentations and ad-hoc requests.
SAP & Systems Expertise
- Manage and optimize SAP processes for controlling activities (R&D, Portfolio, and Commercial), ensuring accurate financial data, reporting, and process efficiency.
Portfolio & Profitability Management
- Analyze portfolio performance (including Marketing Authorizations), assess profitability at gross profit and fully loaded cost levels, and recommend optimization strategies to maximize value and eliminate underperforming products.
Pricing/Tender Management & Gross-to-Net control
- Support pricing strategies for new products and tenders, balancing competitiveness and margin objectives.
Monitor and control Gross-to-Net (G2N) adjustments, Free-of-Charge (FOC) transactions, commissions, and rebates to ensure compliance and profitability.
R&D & Project Financial Management
- Develop and maintain analytics frameworks to track R&D spend, project progress, and KPIs.
- Manage capitalization of personnel costs, Capex & intangible assets, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and proper capitalization and amortization.
Co-Development and B2B Reconciliations
- Oversee co-development and B2B reconciliations and financial accuracy for joint initiatives.
Licensing Projects & Business Cases
- Evaluate and challenge licensing opportunities and related financial models to ensure sound investment decisions.
Launch & Revenue Analysis
- Track and analyze new product launches, measuring performance against forecasts and strategic goals.
- Prepare and analyze P&L statements by revenue stream, providing insights into profitability drivers.
Operational & Financial Controls
- Prepare and monitor accruals and Opex, ensuring accurate forecasting and budget adherence.
- Track and reconcile sales & marketing spending for budget control.
- Manage period-end sales cut-off processes to ensure accurate revenue recognition.
Credit Policy Execution & Control
- Implement and enforce credit policies, manage credit risk, and support timely collections to optimize working capital.
Inventory & Working Capital Management
- Monitor and control lab stock and inventory levels, optimizing working capital and reducing waste.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in finance, accounting, or consulting roles, with a focus on process improvement, transformation, or change management.
- Strong project management skills, with experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from conception to implementation.
- In-depth understanding of financial systems, processes, and controls, with a track record of driving operational efficiencies and cost savings.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data, identify patterns, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization and facilitate collaboration across departments.
