Job Description: 

We are looking for:
A Head of Emerging Markets to be responsible for leading the commercial strategy, growth, and profitability of the company’s business across designated emerging markets (MEA, Asia, LATAM). 
The role leads market entry and growth strategies across diverse geographies, builds strong local partnerships, and ensures effective execution across sales, marketing, pricing, access, and distribution for the company’s pharmaceutical portfolio in order to accelerate sustainable growth.

 

As a Head of Emerging Markets, you will:
Strategy & Market Development
•Develop and execute the Emerging Markets commercial strategy, aligned with overall global and regional objectives.
•Identify priority countries based on market attractiveness, regulatory feasibility, and competitive dynamics.
•Identify new market entry opportunities, including evaluation of market attractiveness, portfolio fit, regulatory complexity, and investment requirements. 
•Lead market entry strategies including partnerships, tender participation, local registrations, and in-licensing opportunities.
•Lead long term growth planning across the emerging markets portfolio, including lifecycle management, geographic expansion, and portfolio optimisation.
Commercial Execution
•Own P&L performance for Emerging Markets, delivering revenue, margin, and profitability targets.
•Define and implement go to market models tailored to local market dynamics (direct presence, distributors, agents, licensing or partnerships).
•Monitor financial performance, forecast accuracy, and implement corrective actions where required.
•Oversee pricing, tender, and access strategies, ensuring competitiveness while protecting profitability.
Partnerships & External Stakeholders
•Select, negotiate, establish and manage strategic local partners, distributors, and licensing partners, ensuring strong governance, performance management, and compliance.
•Build effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including wholesalers, key customers, and where relevant, government and institutional bodies.
•Establish clear performance metrics, commercial KPIs, and governance structures; and lead periodic business reviews to ensure alignment and accountability.
•Oversee tender strategy and contract negotiations in government-driven markets.
Cross Functional Leadership
•Lead commercial negotiations for distribution, supply, and commercial agreements in collaboration with Legal and Finance.
•Work closely with Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Finance, Medical, and Quality to ensure seamless execution across complex emerging market environments.
•Act as the primary commercial interface between global functions and local markets.
Team Leadership
•Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing emerging markets commercial team.
•Build organisational capability in areas such as market access, pricing, tender management, and partner management.
•Foster a performance-driven, compliant, and collaborative culture across the region.
Governance & Compliance
•Ensure full compliance with local regulations, company policies, and ethical standards across all markets.
•Monitor market risks (political, economic, regulatory, and operational) and proactively develop mitigation strategies.

 

What you will bring:
•Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or related field (MBA preferred).
•15+ years of senior commercial experience within the pharmaceutical industry, ideally across multiple emerging markets.
•Proven track record in market entry, distributor management, markets access, and regional P&L ownership.
•Strong experience with pricing, tenders, and access strategies in complex and highly regulated markets.
•Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in diverse cultural and regulatory environments.
•Strategic thinking with strong commercial acumen and execution focus.
•Excellent negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
•Strong leadership capabilities, with experience leading regional or multi country teams.
•Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear commercial decisions.
•High level of resilience, adaptability, and comfort with ambiguity.
